Laundry has always been my least favorite chore. In our sticks & bricks I would put it off until the last possible minute. It isn’t the washing I detest, that part is easy and quick. It was the sorting, the matching of socks, the folding, putting everything away, the running back and forth changing from piles to washer, washer to dryer, over and over. Laundry was a never ending chore. Never completely done.. UGGGHHHH…..
When we decided to go full time in our RV, I thought.. it is going to be so much worse! I imagined running back and forth from RV to laundry room, piles of dirty laundry, piles of clean unfolded clothes. I thought of dirty, dark, dungeon like laundry rooms. I immediately declared… when we upgrade to bigger camper a washer dryer combo was number 1 on my list.
However, 2 years into camping and 3 months into living in our camper, laundry time has became one of my favorite times. Crazy right? NO! Let me walk you thru my laundry day… that I love now!
I drag my 4 IKEA bags of laundry, our towel basket & laundry caddy to the laundry room.. but I also bring: My laptop, my MIFI and any other work I need to complete. This past Sunday I had about 8 loads to do, so I took my shower bag with me. I always follow good camper laundry etiquette. I choose Sunday or Thursday nights because it is the night no one else uses.
I load all 3 washers in our campgrounds laundry room. While they wash, I shower. When that first round is done, I put them in the dryer. Then I work.. on this blog, our Youtube video editing, or my clients work. The dryers take 45 minutes… I get a lot done during those minutes before I have to fold the first load from the dryer. It is quite, peaceful, and just the hum of the machines. It takes me less then 25 minutes to transfer from washer to dryer, reload washers, and fold the 3 loads of fresh dried cloths. Then I have a whole cycle to work more.
Laundry day is now my most productive day! There is a huge sense of accomplishment when in 3 hours I can… wash all 8 loads of our laundry (including bedding and towels), get a blog post scheduled, work on 2 drafts for upcoming posts, get an hours worth of video editing done, complete a couple clients bookkeeping for the month AND have taken a nice long hot shower! Leaving the laundry room with that much accomplished makes it my favorite day now. It also has removed the washer/dryer demand off my list for our new rig. It was firmly planted at #1 just 3 short months ago.
Be sure to check out my post on Thursday on my tips and tricks for making RV life laundry easier and to help you know the etiquette to keep your fellow campers happy. I now have the process down to a science.
The added bonus is majority of the time… I also have the most amazing views.
Beverly Beach, Florida – Yes that is my beach view while doing laundry.
