THIS IS NOT AN APRIL FOOLS JOKE..
We know this announcement will cause multiple reactions and of course everyone will have an opinion. Well because they always do, it is just nature. We did not make this decision lightly. It was made as a family after months of conversations, research and number crunching. So here goes we are going….
Yes. You are seeing that correctly. We are selling our house and everything in it to go live full time in our RV. I can already see your mind turning and the images coming to your mind of what Full Time RVing looks like……..
NO… we will not be Cousin Ed living in relatives driveway dumping our tanks down the storm drain.
NO.. We will not be Chris Farley down by the river, crying as we eat our Roman Noodles three times a day.
NO… It is not a 24 hour, 7 day a week, 365 days a year vacation. (Close .. but it will be real life.)
It will actually look more like this:
Our families and close inner circle of friends have known for months. It was nothing new to them, they fully support it. The majority of them actually are shocked we haven’t done it sooner. They know it is where we want to be.
Even before Hannah came, we were travelers. We have traveled International, road trips, weekend trips, cruises (still love them), but our favorite way is still via the camper. What is there not to love about taking your own bed, bathroom and kitchen on vacation with you. You see we have spent the last 18 months with a huge portion of our time in the Minnie. Well over 225 nights, 187 of those nights in 2018 alone. The experiences we have had, the memories, the things we have seen and last but not least the bonds we made as a family.
We understand it is hard to appreciate when you don’t know the lifestyle. We have many friends who live this way. Some millionaires and some hundred-aires. It is not about money or social status. There is a HUGE community of people who have choose this life. We are now one of them. We have done the small house, the big house and the medium house all filled with stuff. I am tired of cleaning them and maintaining them. We are done with stuff. We have reach that point in our lives where we appreciate travel and nature, where we value experiences and memories with each other and our girls. While this it is not the typical “American Dream.” It is us… It is our American Dream. Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla both invented electric. Edison invented direct current (DC) and Tesla alternating current (AC). Both are electric but are different paths, one goes straight to the point the other bounces back. So just remember that just because someone take a different path than how you would, doesn’t make their path wrong.. it just makes it not your path.
We know we don’t have to justify our decision, but we do want you to understand our reasoning. Our most important reason has nothing to do with where or how we live but more about marbles. Yes.. Marbles. … We have less than a 100 marbles left with each of our girls. We don’t want to waste even one marble.Yes.. you may think we are marbles. You would be correct. If your confused watch this video:
We have put together a list of questions we know people will want answered:
Q: When did you decide this?
A: December. We spent nearly 3 weeks in Florida for Hannah’s adoption finalization celebration at the Beach and Disney World. When it was time to go back to Kentucky, we did not want to go back to the house. We actually ended up NOT going back to the house. We spent 4 additional days at a campground in Williamsburg. Chris and I waited until after Christmas, then we called a family meeting and the decision was made.
Q: What about the girls? Do they have any say so?
A: Of course they do. We did consult them, well actually they consulted us. On that trip home from Disney while we all discussed not waiting to go back to the house. Hannah described it better than any of us, “It is not our home, it’s our house.” She was right it had been more than 6 months since we called our sticks and bricks house, “Home”. We all called it the house, we called the Minnie Home. Madison suggested “Let’s just sell it, and be done.” They are fully on board and pretty dang excited for this next chapter of life.
Q: What about work?
A: I am not leaving my job. I love my work. I can do it whether I live in a RV or a sticks & bricks house. That does not change anything.
Q: Where will you “Park it” when you’re not out adventuring?
A: There are several area campgrounds or resorts that offer full time options. We already have an arraignment with one and we LOVE it there!
Q: Isn’t your Minnie small for all 4 of you and your 3 fur babies to live full time?
A: Yes. We already have a bigger Minnie picked out for just as soon as we sell the house. It is made for our situation. There are RV manufacturers who make RV’s for people to live in full time.
Q: What if you change your mind? Why sell the house, What if you don’t like living full time in an RV?
A: No reason to maintain something we are not using. If we change our minds or don’t like living in an RV.. we buy another house or build another house or rent a house. Chris and I had already intended to downsize to something smaller when the girls left anyways. So we are just doing it sooner.
Q: How does it all work.. camping? Living Full Time? Downsizing?
A: See for yourself.
