Pros:
This is the perfect location in Townsend for tubing the river or visiting the Cades Cove side of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.
Everything was well maintained, nice, neat and clean.
Majority of sites are pull-thru with a handful of back in site located on the out edge of the main road around the campground.
Our site #49 had a paved pad and picnic table.
There are noT fire pits at each campsite but there is a community campfire pavilion at the front of the park. Around the pavilion are corn hole boards.
Big Meadows ton of things to keep the kiddos busy and allow parents some relaxations.
A basketball court.
A pirate ship playground complete with clubhouse.
And the big hit…. The gated splash pad!
The bath house itself was the cleanest we have experienced to date in our travels. They were also decorated very nicely. They felt very homey, not the industrial style bathhouses we normally see.
I really appreciated the detail to security here. The door to the women’s bath house side was a glass door with a pin coded security lock. The pin was changed on a regular basis and is given to you when you enter.
The laundry room was also very nice. I love the detail that was put in making the laundry room an inviting space. I sat one more doing my laundry and having a cup of coffee. It was quite relaxing in there.
The very nice laundry room is also pin coded with a class front door.
The laundry is very well equipped with coin operated 4 washers, 4 gas dryers, a long folding table and 2 small comfy homemade benches. Each load cost $2.00 between washer and dryer. The dryers have a countdown timer.
There are several chairs and table on the walk around porch that surrounds the office.
Cons:
Only real downsides we found was the closeness of the sites in the center of the campground and not having an individual campfire ring. ( Those are a personal preference of ours. We like more space and ending the day with our own campfire.)
Interesting facts:
Location! Location! Location!
This campground is located :
-2 Miles to the entrance of Great Smoky Mountain National Park
-15 Miles to Pigeon Forge
-17 Miles to Gatlinburg
At the front of the campground in the pavilion on Sunday mornings a church service is open to everyone. One of our mornings they also had a Kiwanis pancake breakfast.
