Bardstown Ky – Day 1

Our First Day of our trip to Bardstown Ky in July 2017.

Bardstown Ky  – Day 1 – July 2, 2017

Chris and I went on a short trip just the two of us for fourth of July 2017. The girls were in Florida for a missions trip to Panama Beach.  Hannah had not came to live with us yet, but she was on the trip with Madison. The pictures they sent us were hilarious. This was the first time I had ever allowed Madison to go further than across town away from me. Ultimately it was the reason for our trip to keep me from stressing over her long distance absence.

That morning we went to church, seen the girls off on their adventure and then set out on our own adventure to Bardstown, Kenucky.

TRAVEL DAY –

We had originally planned for Bucky and Sadie to stay home, but in the end we couldn’t leave them. They are great little travelers. Sadie likes to bounce between being held and Bucky is perfectly happy to just lay on the center console with his Vera Bradley UK blanket (Check out the instagram #lostmyverablankettomydog). So we took our pre-trip photo and off we went.

We stopped by Pilot, grabbed snacks, put gas in the truck and off we went. Towing Minnie behind us.

The 113 mile drive from our home to Bardstown, Ky in a car would normally be 2 hours and 13 mins. We went cautiously as we have never traveled this area. It took us towing Minnie 2 hours and 40 mins.

This was our first trip more than 30 mins from home. We still had the Nissan Titan as our tow vehicle.

The view along the way was farm land and farm houses, it really is such a beautiful drive. The sun was shining. I took some photos along but since it was just the two of us  I really just enjoyed the journey!

We arrived at My Old Kentucky Home State Park Campground (see review Here. ) at about 5 pm. Since the site had been reserved online check in was quick and easy. They really go above and beyond here. They gave us a ton of information packets on the area and a book on traveling in Kentucky.

Our site was kind of awkward in the fact it was between 2 trees. We initially tried to back in at the direction traffic flowed thru the campground. We tried this several times and just could not make it happen.  The camper next to us in an Airstream, Mike and his wife Jane came to our rescue. They helped get us backed in and setup.

The site was unlevel to the passenger door side of the camper, so this was the first trip we used our Anderson Levelers.  LOVE LOVE these.. so quick they made leveling left to right a snap. (Order a set here. ) Our site was nice, it was half paved and half gravel. The thing was the electric and water hookup were located to the left of the site across what I call the seating area.  I had read on the campgrounds reviews that these were further away and extensions were need so we were prepared. At nearly 50 feet away we needed 2 water houses and an our electrical extension cord. We covered this up with our mat because we were afraid we would trip.

The campground backs up to the golf course. Our site was in the back on the outer edge so we had a great woodsy view of the greens! It was peaceful and relaxing.

After getting set up Chris and I need to get our groceries for the trip. We decided to head to a  McDonald’s just outside the park for a quick meal, because we have learned never grocery shop while hungry. We are not fans of fast food especially McDonald’s, but the food was very fresh and the inside was very clean. It was quick and on the way to the store.

We passed a shopping center on the way into town with a Walmart. We realized when setting up that we lost a carter pin in our anti-say setup so we stopped into to Lowe’s grabbed one and head to Walmart. We stocked up our groceries for the week, grabbed a movie and headed back to the camper to relax for the evening.

We spent the evening watching our movie, snuggling with our pups and were in bed by 11.

A side note:

While all this was happening we had received a call from the girls that they were stopped north of Chattanooga due to a blown tire on the church bus. After a couple hours the girls messaged they were back on their way. Then within 30 minutes.. they called to say they had blown another tire. I thought they were picking at me. Then the call came from the Youth Pastor that they had decided to stay in Chattanooga and take a different bus the next morning. TALK ABOUT STRESSED OUT….. I was ready to pack it in and drive to get them myself!!!

Stay tuned for Part 2 – July 3rd – Makers Mark
