On the second night of our drive from Kentucky to Texas, we wanted a place to stop over with full hookups. After sleeping in a Walmart parking the first night, traveling all day I was ready for dinner, a long hot shower and a good night sleep. Even though it was October it was HOT… I wanted my good night sleep to include A/C!
I used our AllStays Camping & RV app to find a campground. It was just a couple of miles off our route. The lady we spoke to on the phone to check availability was very nice. Her directions were very easy to follow and we used our maps app as a backup, though it wasn’t needed. Since we were arriving at approximately 8pm, the office was closed. She instructed us over the phone to drop our payment in the drop box at the front office. She gave us the numbers of the available sites. I choose number 34 because it was a pull thru site on the end of the row.
From the looks of the buildings and the sign. I believe at one point this campground must have been a KOA. It was a full service campground with a Pool, Mini-Golf, laundry, cabin rentals, playground and a small fenced dog park. It also offered propane refilling and had a general store. It also had a rather nice catch & release fishing lake, that didn’t require a license. Since we were only stay overnight.. We did not get to take advantage of those amenities.
Our site #34 was a nice level gravel site and the hookups were easily accessible and well laid out. It made setting up in the dark via a flashlight a breeze. Which was very handy since the mosquitoes were out in full force. I must have been bitten at least 5 times in a span of minutes. As soon as the utilities were hooked up the girls started showering while Chris and I prepared dinner. A lovely meal of hotdogs and burgers. The only real complaint we had was the picnic table. While it was on a nice concrete pad, the picnic table was rotted and a tree limb had fallen thru it leaving a large hole in the tabletop. We were able to use it for our grill but absolutely no way could we have used it for anything else. After dinner, we all settled in for a good nights sleep. The campground was quite despite being next to a busy road. We slept very well and did not notice any vehicles pass our camper during the evening.
The campground was mostly full of what appeared to be long term or full time campers. It could have used some debris clean up. There was downed tree limbs, leaves and brush everywhere. However, this I will ignore because we were there just a couple of days after a major storm had hit the area.
The next morning I woke to a surprise. Since we had came in after dark we need not realize our view was so wonderful! We were parked angled directly at the fishing lake and had a pretty much unobstructed view from our windows.
It was a wonderful view to have while making breakfast and unhooking to continue our trip!
Overall it was a good night stay. The full hookups and view were worth the $40 for the night. Looking at the area and entertainment options for us it would not be a long term stop. But for a couple of nights of rest and relaxation or an overnight like this we would give it 2 thumbs up!
